Dr. Anthony Fernando brings a global perspective to Psychiatric practice, having trained in Medicine in the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, trained in Psychiatry in the United Kingdom, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
Anthony has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the United Kingdom, in a variety of geographical locations including Bethlem Royal Hospital, which is part of the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. He has also worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in New Zealand. In Australia, he has worked in a number of geographical locations in Victoria, as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the public sector; he has worked as a Clinical Director within the public health sector in Tasmania; he has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist for public health services in Adelaide, South Australia; he has also provided Consultant Psychiatrist input to public health services in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. Anthony provided face to face private Psychiatric consultations to individuals with a variety of mental health issues in Hobart, Tasmania and Melbourne, Victoria. Since July 2020, Anthony has been providing Tele-Psychiatry services when the need arises so please contact Dr. Anthony Fernnado if you need a Tele-Psychiatry session organised.
Anthony has subspecialised in the UK in the Psychiatry of Autism Spectrum Conditions and for individuals with Intellectual Disability and caters to such patients across the lifespan. It is a well-known fact that individuals with these conditions have more mental health concerns and Anthony employs a multidisciplinary, holistic approach to carefully tailored, person-centred treatment plans for such individuals to optimize excellent health & well-being outcomes.
In addition to the above, Anthony has expertise in ADHD assessments and also provide psychiatric consultations to individuals suffering from a myriad of mood and anxiety, as well as psychosis spectrum disorders, in a collaborative manner, to optimize outcomes for such individuals in terms of well-being and function. He believes that patient education is key to achieving the best health & well-being outcomes.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Dr Fernando has stopped all private patient consults temporarily.
